  1. How do you pitch I Need to Tell You Something in a couple of sentences?

In the near future where a real-time translation device has erased language barriers, a sudden system-wide failure leaves a couple unable to communicate just as they receive news that will change their lives forever.

  1. What was the initial seed, idea or real-world inspiration that made you write this specific story?

There are two concepts of deep interest to me, that are interplaying in this story. One reflects our current world – AI and how mixed the reactions are towards it. And two, the more timeless classic – love. Everyday I hear multiple different conversations about AI. Is it ruining us? Is it bring us together? Could it be both, depending on how we choose to use it? I love playing with concepts which could be argued both ways. That’s the pragmatic side of me. The side of me that is a hopeful romantic and believes in the power and infinity of love was drawing inspiration from her current relationship. I think I am tired of seeing portrayals of toxic love, infidelity, flawed behavior having drastic consequences on people’s lives. Humans are flawed, I get it. But humans are also working on themselves, trying to be better , and genuinely choosing healthy love. I want to shine light on that. The depth of a love that is intentional surpasses time. Sometimes people can make you feel so loved in the limited time together, that you can carry it with you your whole life.

So, yes, AI and Love were the two little seeds that grew into this symbiotic plant that is my short script.

  1. When you picture this film on screen, what mood, pace, and visual style are you aiming for? Are there any movies or filmmakers that served as a visual reference when drafting I Need to Tell You Something?

I don’t like to use too many references to be honest, but the mood would be somewhere in the realm of Past Lives. Even though the entire film is one day in the lives of the characters, a lot happens in less than 24 hours. My goal will be to balance pacing with allowing the important moments to breathe.

  1. Do you plan to direct/produce this project yourself, and where are you currently at on the journey from script to actual production?

Yes! We are currently location scouting!

  1. What’s the estimated budget to bring the short film to life, and how is the financing coming together?

We (me and my co-producer) are financing it ourselves. We are hoping to collaborate with other artists to make this as budget friendly as possible.

  1. What kind of creative partners or collaborators are you hoping to connect with right now to help make this short a reality (producers, co-financiers, crew)?

We welcome all. If someone reading this, finds it interesting, they are welcome to reach out to us. Just let us know in what capacity would you like to work with us.

  1. Aside from I Need to Tell You Something, what else are you working on, and what themes or genres do you find yourself returning to?

Yes, we have another film -GRIT- that will go into production next year. This film explores themes of grief, loss, and overcoming told from the perspective of a South Asian boxer. We also have two feature scripts in development. The genres I am most drawn to are always a mix of comedy and drama. I Need To Tell You Something is my first, slightly futuristic leaning script!
